Could you benefit from having a dog in your workspace?

May 20, 2022

Are you a working professional who doesn’t enjoy the isolation of working from home but you do it so that your dog doesn’t have to be home alone for a long period of time? If so, coworking from a Cowork Local venue could be the solution for your problem!

The majority of our venues are pet friendly across all of our locations! If you’re unsure whether the venues in your area are pet friendly, it’s easy to check! Just head to the venues page of our website, click on the venue closest to you, and scroll down to see whether ‘pet friendly’ is listed in the amenities bullet points. If so, you’re welcome to bring your dog into work with you (as long as they’re well behaved!).

So the question still remains, how can you benefit from having dogs in your workplace? The answer is extensive, but simple at the same time. Dogs in the workplace provide a sense of social support for employees, providing a welcoming environment for coworkers to interact in a positive setting. Taking 5 minutes to stroke the dog or taking it for a walk in your lunch break can provide an instant stress relief which otherwise you’d struggle to come across - it’s a great way to take your mind off work and refresh.

When your dog is in your workspace with you, it acts as a healthy reminder of work-life balance. You’re reminded to take short breaks throughout the day, take your dog out to stretch their legs and take a minute to play with them. Having a dog around boosts morale, communication and productivity within the workplace.

The presence of dogs in a workplace, sparks conversations between coworkers. When going over to stroke the dog for a couple of minutes, you naturally spark up a conversation with the owner which is an easy way to get talking to someone you may otherwise not have an opportunity to approach. Because you’ve struck up a conversation about the dog, you discover an opportunity to work together which wouldn’t have existed otherwise - if nothing else, it’s the perfect icebreaker.

(a side note to be aware of… if you don’t like dogs or have allergies be wary to select venues that aren’t listed as pet friendly)
